An artist of Queens County. BiographySuzanne O'Callaghan was born in Toronto, Ontario and studied at Ryerson, the University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Art. A self-taught painter, she has worked in New York, Cuba and Italy and moved to the Island in the early 1990's. Her retablo, ex-voto and trompe-l'oeil style paintings and larger works celebrating gardens and utilizing violin parts and architectural salvage are often contrapuntal to her work as a poet. She is the author of nine books, most recently Beach Glass (2006) and Naked Libris (2007), both The Book of Kildare Press. She owns and operates The O'Callaghan Art Gallery (est 1994) and The Hillsborough River School of Art (est 2007). Her most recent solo exhibition, Gaze Into My Faces: Portraits of Women, is currently traveling in Canada. Recent projects include The Tablecloth Paintings.
