Biography

Cindy Lentz started potting in the fall of 1994.  She is basically self-taught but has picked up several tips and techniques by attending the occasional course and professional pottery workshops.  Since 2000 she has focused her attention on perfecting her skills through practice and repetition.  She was a full-time member of the Canadian Armed Forces for over 25 years and has recently come to the Island to open her own pottery studio and start working on her second career as a full-time potter.  Her husband, Darryl, is also a potter but he doesn't retire from the Military until 2009.  Together they form a creative synergy producing mostly functional stoneware that is affordable and attractive.  Their pottery expresses each other's thoughts and artistic views.  The Lentz's encourage their customers to use and enjoy their tableware pieces on a daily basis.  The inspiration for their Island Stone pattern comes from their love of Prince Edward Island's red dirt roads, sandstone cliffs and the rippled texture left in the beach sand as the tides come in and out.  Cindy and Darryl also have a line of Celtic inspired pottery with an assortment of incised knots and designs.  Their Truly Canadian pattern is created by pressing real maple leaves onto the sides of their pots while the clay is still soft.  The finished product exposes and accentuates the leaf's individual and unique veins.  Their work has been sold throughout Ontario and was introduced to the Maritimes in 2005.  They accept wholesale orders and welcome commisions.

Cindy enjoys demonstrating her craft and teaches pottery classes to all ages.  Watching and guiding her students, as they discover their own inner creativity through clay, is a great source of pleasure for her.  Over the years Cindy's work has helped to support numerous charities including United Way and Big Sisters.
